Slideshow: Sonoma County Derby Girls Still Winners After First Loss to Brawlin' Betties

The Sonoma County Homewreckers faced off against the Mission City Brawling Betties April 16.

The Sonoma County Roller Derby HomeWreckers took to the track in there home opener at Grace Pavilion in Santa Rosa Saturday night before about more than 1,000 fans in the season's first game.

"We more than doubled our old venue, at CalSkate in Rohnert Park," said Erica Hart, or Honey D. Linkwent, as she's known on the track. "We're estimating 1,200 fans came, and when we sold out at CalSkate we maxed out at 750."

The HomeWrekers' next home game is June 18 against the Santa Cruz Boardwalk Bombshells. The game will be the first where the girls are playing for national rankings under the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.

"We're very competitive," D. Linkwent said.

Sonoma County Roller Derby is in the process of securing a new permanent location in downtown Santa Rosa.

You can't see the pictures from the slide show. I was there as an NSO (non-skating official), and I usually participate for every bout. I also practice with SCRD weekly and I can honestly say, I have never had so much fun with a group of girls in my life. These women are not only hardcore skater's, but great friends too. They skate their hearts out and really make you feel like a part of the family as soon as you put your first pair of skates on and join them . I love SCRD!!!!!!!
